Belfast continues to be the main rental market in Northern Ireland, with 45% of the province’s rental transactions taking place here.

But let’s dig down a little deeper – which areas are popular with renters? Which property types? How many bedrooms are tenants looking for?

Using the data below in conjunction with our exclusive rental yield calculator tool (introduced last week) this is the most up-to-date information for the Belfast landlord looking for the maximum return on investment.

Key stats:

  • A total of 4,960 properties were let in Belfast between January and June 2016
  • This is a 10.7% increase from H2 2015 – but a 4.5% drop over the year
  • The most popular rental property in Belfast is a terrace/townhouse (46% of rentals)
  • The least popular is a detached house (3% of rentals)
  • Two-beds are most popular with Belfast tenants (48% of rentals)
  • One-beds are the least popular (9%)
  • Highest average rent is for a 4/4+ bed property in BT9
  • The lowest is for a one-bed in BT18
